Chiltern League - Round 1

Chalfont Otters started this year's campaign in the Chilterns Swimming League with a solid 3rd place finish in Saturday's gala, this follows on from last year's promotion. The team had a lot of new swimmers competing for the first time outside of the Club Championships and they did not disappoint with a spirited performance throughout the night. There were many personal bests swum with one county time being achieved and 5 swimmers coming close to county times as well. The swimmers actually swam rather too well as this gala was a no faster than competition which meant that we had 15 swims that were not counted in the overall point standing because we actually swam too fast! Therefore it meant finishing 3rd was a great result as we potentially missed out on 90 points. Assistant Head Coach, Guy Massey said, 'this league is a great way for our new and / or inexperienced swimmers to gain some confidence and put themselves in contention for some of the bigger competitions the club takes part in'. He further added 'now I have some interesting evenings to try and come up with a new team as a lot of the swimmers have now become ineligible for this league, but it's a nice position to be in'.

The final team standings were:
1st Witney District    194
2nd Linslade Crusaders 183
3rd Chalfont Otters 164
4th Rushden 164
5th Putteridge Piranhas 148
6th Houghton Regis DNS

Thames Valley League - Final Round

We faced the top teams in the top of the league, and achieved a magnificent  2nd place, an improvement on our official third place last year ( a result surely affected by Amersham not participating in the final gala last year)

Final results and points were as follows :

 Amersham A  204
 Chalfont Otters          156
 Newbury 151
 Windsor 151
 Maidenhead 136
 Chesham   98

After the first 16 races we were running in joint 3rd place, after 32 races we climbed to joint 2nd with Newbury, with Amersham leading thoughout. After a nailbiting set of relays Chalfont finally finished 2nd overall. Congratualtions to all involved with a very strong performance accross the squad, which included nine first places on the night, with 13 out of the 24 individual races achieving PB's.

Windsor Open Meet Jan 2010

Bruce Snodgrass  Head Coach writes..

Chalfont sent a small team of 17 swimmers to the annual Windsor Swim Meet at the end of January. The team picked up three medals over the weekend. Giles Westgarth silver in the 100 Breast, Emily Lloyd bronze in the 100 Back and Jessica Franks a bronze in the 400 IM.

Over the course of the two days, the entire team swam PB after PB and some of the swimmers had a real ‘break through’ and swam faster than they could imagine at this point of the year. Well done to Matthew Penning-Lambert on achieving his first District qualifying time.

For the team to have swum so well, after having such a long break over Christmas, pool closures and snow days, was a fantastic surprise and very promising for the year ahead.

Congratulations to all you swimmers for a job well done!
