Squads
Chalfont Otters have Six Squads
Typhoons
This squad is mainly for the younger swimmer. The time spent here will set the foundations for your swimming career. In all 4 swimming strokes you will be taught the correct stroke technique and how to correctly start and turn to meet ASA swimming laws. As a result of swimming your fitness level will increase and this will also benefit your other sports.
Cyclones
This squad will continue to develop your technical ability in all 4 strokes. Swimming drills will be used to help develop those strokes. More work on starts and turns. If you have progressed from Typhoons then your training time and the distances will also have increased. Swimmers in this squad will probably be selected to represent the Club at inter Club Galas but remember we cannot take everyone.
Whirlwinds
During your time in this Squad the Coaches will still place the emphasis on stroke technique but the volume of training will increase yet again. Swimmers will start to enter the appropriate Open Galas designated by the Club as well representing the Club at invitation and league meets.
Tornadoes
Swimmers in this squad will again have both distance and intensity stroke work increased but will still continue on a more refined level. Swimmers in this squad would be expected to reach at least County standard and some may even reach District level and will have been identified for progression to the next squad. These swimmers will be asked to ‘Stride’ at certain times with the ‘Top Squad’ to prepare them for the move up. All swimmers in this squad will be expected to enter Open meets as well as representing the Club at league galas.
Hurricanes
Training will take the biggest step when joining this group, working to a planned programme to meet the Competition plan. Distances, intensity, technique and duration will all be increased. Competitive swimming will also increase competing at ‘Open Meets’, Counties, Districts and National Championships.
Masters
Senior swimmers may move to this squad at an appropriate time. There are specific Masters Competitions that can be entered and Masters are not excluded from any of the Open meets if they wish to enter.
