George Bushell
George started coaching 14 years ago because of his daughters’ involvement in swimming. The first three years were spent with City of Cardiff working with Great Britain and Olympic coach Dave Heller and where he coached GB Olympian Mark Foster. The next three years were at Amersham as Assistant Coach to the National Squad. After this his journey took him to Bourne End, his first position as Head Coach. The last five years have been at Otters where he has coached his first national age group and national qualifiers.
Darren Gurney
Darren has been teaching swimming for 11 years and is continually building his skills base and qualifications. He is the swimming coach at York House School. He has competed for England and the Great Britain squads and won a number of high-ranking events, including two gold medals in National Age Group. He swam for Great Britain at the Junior European Championships and has also represented his country at water polo. IN a feat possibly never to be repeated, he won Southern County Medals in Breaststroke, Freestyle, Butterfly and IM at all distances.
Guy Massey
Guy started assisting in coaching at the age of 16 and has been coaching at Chalfont Otters for 2½ years. He started swimming competitively at the age of 7 for Solihull Swimming Club. At the age of 9 he moved to The City of Birmingham Swimming Club, which is an Elite Swimming Club competing at National Level. Whilst there he swam and won at many times at National and District competitions. At 18 he made Senior Nationals and achieved national qualifying times in the 100m Breaststroke and 200 IM and finished with 2 national rankings inside the top 50. Swimming at University, he held 4 University records and was part of a team that finished 5th in the University Championships
Jill Palmer
Jill started teaching swimming 20 years ago at Worlds End Swimming Club – a voluntary run club for 5 to 15 years old in Harborne, Birmingham. In 2004 she became co-manager of the club with the responsibility for the overall teaching and running of the club with approx 80 members from beginners level upwards. In addition to this, Jill worked for Birmingham City Council as a Strokes Instructor and Casual cover-swimming teacher covering a wide range of classes, abilities and ages including Mini Strokes (in the water with the under 4 year olds) up to Masters. She joined Chalfont Otters just over a year ago.
